The sensitive issue about rape has been rounding up on social media since last weekend shortly after the Lucban Municipal Police Station warned girls not to wear short clothes to prevent sex crimes which have drawn the ire of netizens for apparent victim-blaming.
Different personalities and celebrities have come up with different opinions with regard to the hot topic on social media. Many have blatantly expressed their dismay but some have agreed on the malicious warning—Ben Tulfo is one of those people who think that the way how women dress can be an opportunity to sexually assault them.
STOP TEACHING GIRLS HOW TO DRESS?? TEACH PEOPLE NOT TO RAPE. https://t.co/mERzlAqXBm

breaking news: my clothing is NOT my consent.

Broadcaster Ben Tulfo has posted a comment in a tweet of Frankie Pangilinan, daughter of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Senator Kiko Pangilinan, saying that a rapist’s desire will always be there and urged "sexy ladies" to be careful with the way they dress because they might be "inviting the beast”
Hija @kakiep83 , a rapist or a juvenile sex offender's desire to commit a crime will always be there. All they need is an opportunity, when to commit the crime. Sexy ladies, careful with the way you dress up! You are inviting the beast.
— Ben Tulfo (@bitagbentulfo) June 13, 2020
Tulfo even called Pangilinan, “hija” which then tops twitter trends as #HijaAko.
As a reply to the broadcaster, Kakie wasn't going to accept any of it. She retweeted Tulfo's statement and listed down her three important points, which we quote:
- Rape culture is real and a product of this precise line of thinking, where the behavior is normalized, particularly by men.
- The way any person dresses should not be deemed as ‘opportunity’ to sexually assault them. ever.
- Calling me hija will not belittle my point.

Tulfo reiterated his point in a separate Facebook post on Saturday night, June 13.
Meanwhile, women immediately backed Pangilinan’s points and shared the very real incidents of sexual harassment that occur because of men’s behavior and way of thinking, not because of the way how they dress.
i was 17 when a man slipped his hand into my oversized denim jumper. 18, when a man unzipped my large coat to touch me. at 19, i was wearing baggy pants, only still to be groped.

stop blaming women for their clothes.
start holding men accountable for their actions.#HijaAko!!!
Excuse me Ben Tulfo, the way 'sexy ladies' dress up is NOT an invitation to the 'beast'.

As long as men like you who thinks this way exists, we will never be able to abolish the culture of VICTIM BLAMING.
RAPE EXISTS BECAUSE OF RAPISTS. Period.#HijaAko
i have been abused, cat-called, harassed, manipulated, slut shamed, sexualized and is continuously battling with the trauma until now.

plot twist? the trauma are all caused by men. men are trash. #HijaAko
i was raped by my step dad while i was sleeping. i was 6 and was on my pajamas. it is and will never be about what women were wearing at the time when this happened. stop victim blaming, bobo. #HijaAko

Also, celebrities and other personalities censured the malicious attacks on women and shown their support to all those people who are against this kind of hypocrisy.
Stop blaming it on what others wear and EDUCATE others that victims aren’t asking for it if they are dressed “SEXY”.
— Lauren Young (@loyoung) June 14, 2020
I’ll wear whatever I want and if its sexy and it turns you on well thats your problem, not mine. Because I dress up for me NOT you. #HijaAko
So proud of you, hija @kakiep83! 💜

Sexy women are raped.
— Ai dela Cruz (@aidelacruz) June 14, 2020
Thin women are raped.
Fat women are raped.
Even BABIES and ANIMALS are raped.
Stop thinking it’s about what we wear.
It’s not about “good” men being tempted by women’s sexy clothing.
It’s about those men being rapists.
Educate THEM, not us.#HijaAko
