After grappling with Super Typhoon Karding last Sunday, September 25, the Philippines faces the dreadful aftermath. Karding (Noru) is the 11th tropical cyclone to hit the country this year. Its strong winds and torrential rain massively hit central Luzon and surrounding areas.
Citizens of Quezon province, where Karding made its two landfalls, struggle to stand back on their feet as the typhoon wipes off their homes and livelihood. According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), more than 700 houses got damaged in Burdeos, Quezon. Some citizens have temporarily resorted to plastic bags to repair the damages made to their residences. In line with this, residents have been asking the government; not for financial assistance but for materials needed to fix their roofs and properties.
Aside from Quezon, another province that experienced the devastating calamity was Bulacan. Due to the heavy rains caused by Karding, 49 villages in San Miguel, Bulacan, submerged in chest-high floodwaters. On September 27, the officials declared the town under State of Calamity due to the damages to households, agriculture, and infrastructure.
As of September 27, as reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), at least 3 people are missing, and 8 deaths from the typhoon - including the 5 rescuers from San Miguel, Bulacan, who died due to drowning.
The Super Typhoon left the country on Monday evening, leaving the nation to cope with the hefty destruction and grief.
