Yes, you read it, folks, cold days are coming in the Metro!
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Benison Estareja said that the temperature may drop to 18 to 24 degrees Celsius between January and February in Metro Manila.
“Napansin niyo po ba ang malamig na temperatura nitong mga nagdaang araw? Well asahan pa rin po natin ‘yan hanggang sa katapusan ng Pebrero,” Estareja said.
Pinoys can literally enjoy an unlimited and free ‘aircon’ for a little while and expect colder weather until February due to the northeast monsoon.
It is said that the northeast monsoon, cold air from Siberia, peaks between January and February.
The temperature in Baguio City may further dip to 9 degrees Celsius this month. The coldest recorded so far in the city this northeast monsoon season was 10.4 degrees Celsius.
In history from the data of PAGASA, the coldest days in Metro Manila were recorded on Feb. 4, 1987, and on Dec. 30, 1988, when the temperature plunged to 15.1 degrees Celsius.
So what are you waiting for? Get your sweaters, sip your coffee, and enjoy the chilly weather while it lasts.
