The community pantry which produced similar initiatives around the country will halt its operations and receiving of goods for those affected by the quarantines following what it called 'red-tagging' in some government social media pages.
Anna Patricia Non, the person who started the concept of Community Pantry in Maginhawa, said that the operations will be temporarily unavailable for the safety of its volunteers.
The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict posted graphics on its Facebook page apparently linking the community pantry initiatives to the communist movement.
Also, the Quezon City Police District also posted a similar graphic on its Facebook page.
Non said three policemen had asked for her contact details and whether she belonged to an organization.
Meanwhile, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte posted a statement on Quezon City Government Facebook page, expressing her support to the initiative, and gave them assurance of their safety during the operations.
“I would like to personally assure Ms. Ana Patricia Non and other like-minded individuals that the local government of Quezon City fully supports Community Pantries,” said Mayor Joy. “Indeed, these initiatives highlight the bayanihan spirit inherent in our QCitizens. The city government will therefore ensure that the organizers and beneficiaries of Community Pantries remain safe and unimpeded. “
“For several days now, our Task Force Disiplina and barangay leaders have assisted in maintaining peace and order in the Maginhawa Community Pantry. They are only there to help remind the public about observing minimum health standards and to assist in controlling any crowds that may form. Task Force Disiplina is instructed to do the same for any other community pantries in the city should barangay personnel need additional assistance.” She added.
Also, Senator Nancy Binay slammed the red-tagging of Ana Patricia Non,
“My heart goes to Patreng (Ana Patricia Non), who has been maliciously red-tagged for having a heart for the poor. Anong ambag n’yo?” Binay said in a statement Tuesday.
