Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard case awaits verdict, jury begins deliberation
By Grace Alcantara 31 May 2022 652

After a month and a half long of explosive revelations in court about the past relationship of ex-lovers Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, the two now await the verdict of the court as the jury begins deliberation.

Depp sued Heard for $50 million for implying that he abused her in 2018. Although Heard did not name Depp in her statement, the actor faced the consequences of her implications. She countersued for $100 million. The defamation dilemma that lasted for almost 4 years is now coming to an end.

Lawyers of both parties have delivered their closing statements. Heard’s lawyer closed their statement by saying that a ruling that was going to be in favor of Depp would make the jurors an “accomplice” to Depp’s abuse of Heard, and to his “campaign of global humiliation”. Heard’s lawyer called out Depp for “laughing” and making “snide comments” during closing, saying that he is “victim-blaming at its most disgusting”

Meanwhile, Depp’s lawyer's wrapped their closing statement with him asking the jurors to “give him his life back” after he claims it was ruined by Heard’s allegations of abuse. They alleged that Heard gave the performance of her life during the six week trial that revealed the troublesome marriage of the two.

Depp’s lawyer told jurors that Amber Heard’s allegations  of abuse do not make sense given that the actor has not been accused by any other women of physical assault, but they cannot say the same for Heard since she has a history of abusive behavior.

In his argument, Ben Chew, Depp’s lawyer says Depp “is no saint. He owns his flaws… he admits to them, but he is not a violent abuser”

Depp shared a heartwarming hug with his lawyer after the latter delivered their closing statement. The video of them hugging went viral online and captured the hearts and attention of netizens.

Both Depp and Heard say their careers suffered because of this defamation case. It is now up to the jury to decide who is to be charged for damages, all they have to do now is wait.
