Hot Pot 101: A First-timer Guide
By 27 Feb 2020 1281

By: Airah Agustin |

A recent trip to Supreme Beef Hotpot Restaurant got our bellies full, and our minds were blown!

Managing Partner Mr. Paul Chua shared with us these tips on how you can enjoy your Hotpot experience even more!

  1. Hotpot is perfect for drinking!

We can all agree that sometimes all we need with a bottle of beer is some soup and meat.

“This (Hotpot) is actually perfect when you’re drinking,” Mr. Chua said.

“Kasi iinom ka, tatamaan ka, magsasabaw ka, mawawala.” He added.

“Pero delikado rin kasi mapaparami (ang inom),” he jokes.

Just remember to drink responsibly guys!

  1. The best time to cook is when the water is BOILING.

That’s right folks. Let the water boil first before you dump in your meat and veggies.

  1. Cook your meat for ONLY 15 seconds!

When we eat at a Hotpot restaurant, our first thinking is to just dump every meat and ingredient that we have into the boiling pot of water; that’s not the optimal way to cook the meat according to Mr. Chua.

According to him, dumping the meat into the pot and leaving it there will overcook the meat. The best way to cook it is to put your meat in a strainer and cook it in the boiling water for 3 sets of 5 seconds. The first 5 seconds will give you a slice of rare meat, another 5 seconds will result in a medium-rare, and another 5 seconds to have a medium cook.

He also shared that all internal organs should be cooked for 3-5 minutes.

  1. The meat makes the soup tasty.

No need to add seasonings in your soup, because the meat you cook in it will do just fine!

After a few cooks of the meat in the pot, you’ll notice that the color will get a little darker, and that’s when it’s the tastiest!

  1. Turn your soup into something more!

Still hungry but don’t want to sip another bowl of plain soup anymore? Mr. Paul Chua has a little tip for you!

When you only have a small amount of soup left, ask for some rice and cook it a little, then add some sesame oil and cilantro and voila! You have yourself a delicious bowl of Congee!

There you have it! Keep these in mind and surely you’ll enjoy your Hotpot Restaurant experience!
