Foodpanda PH restaurant partners call out to boycott delivery app
By AJ Virtuz 14 Jan 2022 1580

Delivery app Foodpanda Philippines has been receiving several complaints from restaurant owners online.

“We are saying goodbye to Foodpanda as it is not profitable and reasonable at all,” said in a Facebook post by SizzlingPoint; one of Foodpanda’s former restaurant partner.

The restaurant also enumerated how the delivery app “kills small business” like them.

  1. Giving out FREE FOOD to scammer customers unreasonably cancelling orders and not releasing the payment to us. (FYI, we always double check the orders before sending.)
  2. High platform fee. I know it's our choice, but it's too much.
  3. 12% VAT from them PLUS another 12%VAT for our restaurant. Your profit will burn down.

SizzlingPoint’s post was also flooded by a plethora of comments from different restaurant owners stressing how they experienced the same service from the app.

“Saan ka nakakita na yung 60k pa dapat na ilang months na kinita namin, nawala dahil sa 100% refund request ng customers na nakain naman nila and hindi namin napagtanggol sarili namin sa complaint. ALL VOUCHERS, DISCOUNTS AND PROMO bakit carry over sa merchant? Hindi kayo pro small business foodpanda”, one comment said.

Mama Dith’s; another Foodpanda’s former restaurant partner also took to Facebook to express their dismay towards the delivery app.

“Para sa small business na tulad ko, pumayag ako sa 27% commission nila before pandemic (kahit na halos kainin na ang profit margin namin!), pero starting June 2021, nagsimula na rin sila maningil ng additional 12% para daw sa tax nila plus P1K++ AGENCY FEES (???) daw na wala naman sa original contract!” The restaurant said on their Facebook post.

Local restaurant JIMS Pairs and Hot Mommy Valenzuela’s story is just the same as other food chain’s complaint. In their Facebook post, the restaurant summarized their concerns into three main points: monthly hidden charges, extremely high platform fee, and customers abrupt cancellation of orders at the last minute when food is already out for delivery.

Other posts from personal accounts of restaurant owners expressing their frustration on the delivery app also circulated online.

“Sobrang bulok ng sistema, kaya maraming scammer dito. They will refund sa customer at hindi babayaran ang store kahit walang proof na wrong items ang na-deliver,” a restaurant owner said in her Facebook post. “Often reason pa for cancelled orders e hindi daw na-receive ang item, kahit naibigay na sa rider ang item at nakaalis na sa store,” she added.

As of writing, Foodpanda Philippines has not released their statement regarding the complaints circulating online.
