The pandemic caused a lot of business establishments and institutions to close down, and it’s devastating.
One of the oldest academic institutions in the Philippines, College of the Holy Spirit Manila, is closing down in 2022.
"Be it known that the College of the Holy Spirit Manila will voluntarily cease operations at the end of [academic year] 2021-2022," CHSM said in a statement on Facebook on Sunday, November 22.
CHSM did not cite the reasons on its post, but given the fact that the education sector is one of the casualties of the coronavirus pandemic, we can infer that it pushed the school to halt its operations.
“The recent COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation. The reduction or loss in family income, mobility restrictions, and social distancing requirements and the new demands of distance learning have adversely affected enrollment, not only in CHSM but in most private schools as well,” said Sr. Carmelita Victoria of the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit, the order which runs the school, in a published article by Nolisoli.com
The school said current Grade 11 and 3rd-year college students will still be able to graduate but levels K to Grade 11 and 1st to 3rd-year college level will not be opened for the academic year 2021-2022.
Founded more than a century ago, the College of the Holy Spirit Manila started as an exclusive all-girls institution. It was only in 2005 that it shifted to a co-ed admission system in high school, and in 2016 in college.
Yup. This may be the end but surely, all of your students will never ever forget all the learnings and memories.
Thank you, College of the Holy Spirit Manila!
