Who made it on the list?: Grammy 2023 nominees finally revealed

One of the most exciting and eagerly anticipated times in the music industry has officially begun as the prestigious and pioneering Grammy Awards revealed its list of nominees for the 65th edition. Grammy is an annual giving body that recognizes the "outstanding achievement" of artists in the music industry.

The live announcement was held from the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, with artists present such as Olivia Rodrigo, John Legend, Cyndi Lauper, and Machine Gun Kelly, along with Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr.

The selection process for the Grammy 2023 began on October 13 and ended on October 23. Final-round voting shall start on December 14 and be concluded on January 4, 2023. The Recording Academy also announced five new award categories, including Songwriter of the Year (Non-Classical) and Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games. Grammys 2023 have 91 categories in total and will air live on February 5, 2023, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. 

 

Big names and new artists emerged and dominated the lists. Beyonce led the nominees this year earning a total of 9 nominations including the 'Record of the Year' and  'Song of the Year' for Break My Soul. She also bagged a nomination for 'Album of the Year' for her Renaissance. This 9 nominations for the singer-songwriter created yet another history as she ties with her husband Jay-Z  as the most nominated artists in GRAMMY history, with 88 in total.

 

 

South Korean seven-act boy band BTS, also made a feat after scoring two nominations. BTS bagged a nomination for  Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with their song 'My Universe' which was collaborated with British band Coldplay. In addition, BTS’ “Yet To Come” is also nominated for Best Music Video. This makes the band the most nominated k-group in history.

 

 

On the other hand, fans were shocked after Korean girl group BLACKPINK was snubbed for a nomination for their music after landing on No. 1 on Billboard 200 chart.

 

Viola Davis, an award winning actress was nominated for Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording category which is a step closer to becoming an EGOT holder.

 

 

Pop star and singer-songwriter Taylor Swift made it in the cut for the Song of the Year as "All Too Well" (10 Minute Version) (The Short Film) is nominated but her 10th studio album Midnights surprisingly was snubbed for the Album of the Year.

 

On her Instagram, Taylor penned a message right after 'All too Well' got nominated saying that it is the song she is most proud of out of everything she have ever written.

 

Moreover, some of the biggest names that were nominated also were Kendrick Lamar which scored 8 nominations, Adele and Brandi Carlile both bagged 7 nominations apiece while Harry Styles, DJ Khaled and Future had six.
