The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Cheer Dance Competition (CDC) is one of the most exciting and highly anticipated events in the UAAP season. It’s returning for a face-to-face match after COVID hit the country in 2020.
The UAAP season 84 president, Nong Calanog decided not allow drummers for health and safety reasons because of the ongoing COVID19 situation. “Part of that consideration, as compared to basketball games that only have two schools playing and two squads cheering, these are eight schools cheering at the same time,” he explained. “Based on our observations, there are really some spectators that sometimes do not follow rules and take off their masks. Some are really health-related when we decided.”
However, drummers from the eight universities participating in the UAAP season created a joint statement to persuade the UAAP Board’s decision not to allow them to join the activity. The joint statement contains: “Drums bring life and excitement to the crowd and encourage every UAAP fan to cheer proudly for their school. This CDC will not only bring the UAAP schools together but also rekindle the lost memories that could have been made during the 2-year absence of CDC”
“This event will not be complete without us, the UAAP Drummers”
UAAP Board’s decision upon this joint statement is to be released either today or tomorrow.
The UAAP CDC will be held on Sunday at 4pm at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
