The Royal Rumble: Controversies of the Royal Family
By Almira Louise Martinez 13 Sep 2022 652

Elizabeth began her journey with the crown at the age of 25. Her 70 years reign was the longest British monarch recorded in history. Serving as the head of her family, the Queen’s leadership embodied her nation’s wartime slogan, “Keep calm and carry on.” As she witnessed all the scandalous acts exhibited by her family members throughout the years, Elizabeth tried to keep her family’s reputation intact and polished.

As the longest-serving monarch ended when Queen Elizabeth passed away at 96 years old on September 8 in Balmoral, her family’s impeded dark past resurfaced back to life.

A not-so-happy ending for the ‘Fairytale’ Wedding

Deemed the most magical royal wedding, the matrimony of Prince Charles and Princess Diana ended in 1992 when the couple announced their separation. Opposite to their fairytale wedding, their marriage was far from being enchanting. As narrated by Diana in an interview with Martin Bashir, three people were involved in the relationship. “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” the People’s princess hinted at the affair of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles. Following this confession, Diana also admitted to being unfaithful herself. According to her statement, she fell in love with her riding instructor, James Hewill. This controversy is one of the biggest and most talked about scandals in the royal family.

In 1997, the fiasco ended when Diana died in a tragic car crash in Paris. The death of Princess Diana raised many questions from the public because of its inconsistent details.

“What happens in Vegas, do not stay in Vegas”

In 2012, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, shocked the whole world with a photo of him naked with other women in a stripped billiards game on his Las Vegas trip. According to reports, the Prince stopped by Vegas to “let off steam” before commencing a new phase in his military career.  Though publications aren’t allowed to publicize these immodest photographs, James Palace confirmed Harry’s identity in the photos.

During the Prince’s recent appearance in Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, Harry admitted that looking back on his infamous Vegas trip, he knew he needed some help.

The Problematic Prince

Making one of the most scandalous headlines today, Prince Andrew was allegedly a sexual abuser and a predator. Virginia Guiffre stated in her court documents that she was sex trafficked and abused by Jeffrey Epstein when she was only 16 years old. Aside from the abuse, Guiffre would also be “lent out” to other powerful men - including the Duke of York. The accuser also claimed that she was sexually assaulted by Prince Andrew on three occasions when she was still a minor.

Though the Prince continues to deny all allegations against him, the US district court reported that the Duke and Guiffre made "a settlement in principle.” Some speculations in the public said that the settlement might cost the Prince up to millions of dollars.
