‘The Kingmaker’ is now up for free streaming!
By Hannah Touchette 16 Mar 2022 1112

The critically acclaimed documentary film of Lauren Greenfield, an Emmy-winning filmmaker and photographer, that tackles in-depth the atrocities of the Marcos family in the eyes of former First Lady Imelda Marcos, is now up for free online streaming.

Why did it suddenly become the talk of the town?

Now that the national elections are about to come, Filipinos are more conscious than ever of electing the next person to seat in Malacañang. After all, our fate lies on them. Arising at the top of everyone’s conversation is presidential aspirant, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. and how their family plays a role in our country’s history. The “Kingmaker” is of great reference in accordance with this.

The film gives us a glimpse of how the relationship of Imelda and late dictator Ferdinand Marcos started, how she influenced him during the Marcos regime, Martial Law, the EDSA revolution, the exile of the Marcoses, and their return to the Philippines.

It also features interviews with the Marcos family, including Imelda, her son, Bongbong Marcos, and grandson, Sandro Marcos, who is currently running for a congressional seat. However, Greenfield also highlights how their narratives seem to contrast with the number of human rights abuses, as we know, that were rampant during the Marcos regime. Delusions that the Philippines were prosperous, peaceful, and united during their time were debunked.

The propaganda of disinformation and manipulation is more prevalent than ever, this film will remind us of our roots, how our oppressors in the past remained in apathy and would do anything in power to revise history.

In her twitter account, Greenfield announced last Friday, March 11, everyone can now watch the documentary online at any device through Vimeo even without the hassle of signing up or logging into an account. This was made possible through an arrangement with ABS-CBN and iWantTFC.
