The end of the Phone-Cannot-Be-Unlocked-Cause-Of-Facemask era

Can you unlock your phone while wearing a facemask?

As Apple conducted its "Peek Performance" event last March 8 and announced their new products, iPhone users were in awe as new iPhone hues - Green and Alpine green for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro - were unveiled at the brand's spring event. Following then, today on March 15, the updated operating system, iOS 15.4, was released.

Transitioning from Touch ID to Face ID was first unwelcomed as it was Apple iPhone's biometric branding, but the company intended to shift to a borderless design with no Home button. And just as the users were beginning to appreciate Face ID, COVID-19 happened, and face masks became vital in our daily lives, forcing us to resort to continually inputting passcodes repeatedly as if the device lacked biometric authentication.

Garnering 40k tweets, Apple’s latest iOS update trended immediately, locally and internationally, as the new update adds the ability to unlock with Face ID, or facial recognition while wearing a mask and/or glasses. This is truly an advancement in the field of innovation and technology that may influence other brands to step up their game as well.

The sole disadvantage of the Face ID update is that it only supports iPhone 12 and other recent models, which caused mild disapproval for lower iPhone model users. The software update offers 76 new emojis, an addition to Siri's voices, and other improvements and bug fixes for all iPhone products.
