‘The Bride!’ Movie Review: A Creative Reinvention of a Classic with a Dark New Twist
By Jay Chiu 04 Mar 2026 372

Sometimes, stories can be predictable, especially for those we’ve heard many times before. The (in)famous Frankenstein became a horror legend, and it was given a unique expanded story in The Bride that showed his journey to find happiness and his willingness to do whatever it takes to fill that void. His destined bride had a dark past, which the story reveals in such an unsettling way with snippets of humor to prevent it from dragging.

The cast delivered performances that allowed them to shine while helping the audience understand the characters. Some scenes featured obvious CGI, but it was negligible, and the art direction and lighting made it feel like a modern classic. Whatever inspired writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal when making this film, we’d love to get some of it because she did a brilliant job.

Is it a modern romance with a touch of women’s empowerment? Or is it a story about self-discovery and renewal? We believe it's up to the audience to decide on the underlying themes for themselves.
