SM Megamall Showcases First 3D Billboard in the Philippines
By Grace Alcantara 02 May 2022 1361

A massive whale shark is projected from the first 3D billboard at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong on Wednesday.

The usual count of people outdoors has increased significantly as compared to that of our pre-pandemic days. Economic activities continue to increase as restrictions continue to be relaxed due to high COVID19 vaccination rates and fewer cases of infection. That being said, EDSA greets the herd of cars and passersby. All seems to be normal but at night there is a massive whale shark swimming along the historic highway on a 3D Billboard.

This immersive 3D art installation is brought to us by SM Megamall on one of their LED signs. The one-minute motion display of a whale shark  hits a huge water-filled tank and later falls out of it. The idea of making this specific installation theme pays homage to our country and recognizes that the Philippines holds the second largest mammal population in the world.

On the grounds of SM Megamall, this 3D LED adds the Philippines to the list of countries where public spaces have been enhanced with such immersive displays such as “The Giant Cat” at Shinjuku Station in Tokyo, Japan, “The Big Wave” in Seoul, South Korea, “The 3D Lion” in Chengdu, China, and “The Ghostbusters Afterlife” in Times Square, Manhattan, NY.

The realistic display of the whale shark can be viewed everyday until July 30th, the show will start from 7:00pm at a thirty minute interval until the mall closes. Prepare to be amazed by the first high definition immersive content in the country. It’s free to look and watch in awe.
