This is it, one of the kids’ favorite adventure movies of all time is finally back after 15 years!
On Thursday, November 19, Netflix has dropped the wonderful news about the standalone sequel movie of ‘The adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl’ titled “We Can Be Heroes” on social media.
Robert Rodriguez, the brilliant writer/director behind the movie, surprised fans with the reveal of Sharkboy and Lavagirl all grown up on the sequel.
The story follows the journey of a group of kids who similarly try to battle an alien attack together to save their parents from aliens. Among the parents are Sharkboy and Lavagirl.
With the cast, Taylor Dooley is reprising her role as the original Lavagirl, while her husband Taylor Lautner, the original Sharkboy, has been recast for an unknown reason yet. Their daughter will be played by Vivien Lyra Blair, who was Girl in the movie ‘Bird Box’.
Fans got wild when they found out that Lautner will not be playing his character anymore--a not perfect move in reliving their dreams, as what they call it.
Here are some reactions:
But, in a write-up published by screenrant.com, the movie creator himself Robert Rodriguez shared in an interview with Collider that only Lavagirl has a speaking role, meaning that her and Sharkboy’s presence are merely cameo roles, so with that in mind, it makes sense that Sharkboy was recast, even if many were looking forward to seeing Lautner back in action.
Cheer up fans, you may not see Lautner on your screens, but hey, at least we can still go on a journey as We Can Be Heroes debuts on Netflix on New Year’s Day, January 1!
A great way to start a prosperous New Year, y’all!
