By Jhoemz Vercide 16 Jul 2020 625

Is it finally the answer to the pandemic?

On July 15, the Russian Defense Military said it had developed a safe vaccine against the novel coronavirus 2019.

In an article published on TimesNowNews.com, Russia’s Sechenov University announced that it had successfully completed the clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine candidate developed by the Gamalei Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology.

According to Agence France-Presse, the results from the phase 1 clinical trial of a potential COVID-19 vaccine showed that the candidate is safe and well-tolerated.

A group of 18 people who had participated in the study was discharged from the hospital on July 15 without ‘serious adverse events, health complaints, complications or side effects’, according to the Defense Ministry.

The two groups of 18 volunteers were discharged from hospitals after separately taking part in 28-day clinical trials in the First Moscow State Medical University and the Main Military Clinical Burdenko Hospital.

A medical check-up was conducted and they passed a blood test to study the development of an immune response to the novel coronavirus before they have released, the officials of both medical establishments told reporters.

“Their immunity is working well, antibodies are being created, they are protected against the coronavirus,” researcher Svetlana Volchikhina was quoted as saying in a video released by the Defense Ministry.

On the 42nd day after the first vaccination, the volunteers will have to return to the hospital for a day to undergo a final medical examination and diagnosis.

As of writing, a total of nearly 6,500 more coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours were confirmed in Russia, bringing the overall count to almost 746,400 with 211,350 active cases.

The country’s death toll neared 11,800 after the virus claimed 156 more lives, and around 10,500 recoveries pushed the tally to beyond 523,200, Anadolu Agency reported.

There are 100 coronavirus vaccines currently being developed across the world, with 19 candidates in human trials. However, only two experimental vaccines, one by China’s Sinopharm and another by Oxford/AstraZeneca, are in the final phase 3 trials.

The world’s race for the much-awaited antidote to eradicate the deadly virus has been giving us a little hope with news and updates about successful stages of clinical trials.
