British actor Robert Pattinson has tested positive for COVID-19, news media reported on Thursday, delaying the production of the new franchise of "The Batman" movie, just a few days after the shooting has resumed due to the pandemic.
Movie studio Warner Bros. said in a statement that "a member of 'The Batman' production" in Britain had tested positive for the coronavirus, but did not give the name.
"A member of The Batman production has tested positive for COVID-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols," the entertainment studio said.
"Filming is temporarily paused," the studio added in their statement, but did not indicate for how long.
However different legitimate Hollywood trade publications, including Variety, Vanity Fair, and The Hollywood Reporter, said they had confirmed that the 34-year-old Pattinson was the infected cast member.
The Warner Bros. and the Hollywood actor’s representatives have not returned calls yet to give comments and confirm that the Twilight star was suffering from Coronavirus infection.
The production of "The Batman" had resumed in north of London only three days ago after being halted in mid-March this year, along with dozens of other movies and TV shows around the world due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
The movie, in which Pattinson stars as the comic book hero, has about three months of material left to shoot, according to Hollywood trade outlets. Its release was pushed back earlier this year from June 2021 to October 2021.
Movie and TV production has been slow to continue shooting again under the complex safety procedures which include testing, quarantine and social distancing on production sets that require employing dozens of crew members, makeup artists, actors, extras and other production staff.
Some productions this year, including Universal Pictures' "Jurassic World: Dominion," have restarted in London or in Eastern Europe, while the production of the "Avatar" sequel is back at hustling in New Zealand.
Robert Pattinson is the latest among the high-profile actors who have contracted the virus, just after Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has revealed that his entire family had tested positive for COVID-19 but had all made a full recovery.
