Rick and Morty season 5 is coming sooner than we expected, creator hints

Time to get schwifty, Rick and Morty fans! Our favorite adult animated show Rick and Morty is finally going to release its highly anticipated season 5, and apparently sooner than anticipated.

“Rick and Morty season 5 will definitely happen one day, probably some time in 2021.”

Knowing creators of Rick and Morty to troll their fans and not “fully” revealing important details, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland hinted that season 5 will be released next year.

“We’re more on schedule than we’ve ever been,” says co-creator Dan Harmon during the ‘Comic-Con at Home’ virtual panels in July this year, also stating how COVID-19 has impacted the digital workflow of the show.

The co-creator also explained how working at home has made the team become more productive and focused on working for the new season.

“It kind of makes you have to focus on the whole process when you don’t have this office environment anymore. Everyone has to run this bee colony remotely, so the honey just gets made more consistently. It’s working for us,” Harmon said.

Also during the Comic-Con at Home virtual panels, an early preview of Rick and Morty season 5 was screened to lucky audiences, leaving the audiences in awe with the “signature high-concept chaos” as per interview. This was also when, Harmon confirmed that they were “basically done writing”, leaving fans surprised and more hyped.

The creator also provided a glimpse of what might happen in season 5.

“There’s an episode in Season 5 where Morty has a relationship with another female character that’s not Jessica. It’s just a great little story and my very, very longtime friend and collaborator Rob Schrab wrote it. “

During the season four renewal, Harmon and Roiland told Entertainment Weekly (EW), an American entertainment magazine, about the upcoming episodes and confirmed that "the plan has always been to get them out quicker.”

In the same EW interview, the creators hinted that the future seasons could be longer than 10 episodes.

“We’re literally writing season 5 while finishing season 4 just to force ourselves to commit to a certain schedule,” Harmon said. “Not to get anyone’s hopes up, but it is structured into our deal that if we’re going strong and fast there are options to deliver more episodes at a time.”

Harmon also explained how season 5 arrival will not keep audience long like they did in season 4.

"I think it's safe to say without fear of being wrong that the gap between seasons three and four will be the longest and last time that it's ever so long that it's ridiculous. I don't know how fast we can do it, but I know it will never be this long again," explained Harmon.

Rick and Morty is a Primetime Emmy award-winning adult animated science fiction sitcom that is heavily influenced by the characters Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly in the movie Back to the Future (1985). The show follows mischief adventures of misanthropic mad scientist

Rick Sanchez and his good-hearted but unsettled grandson Morty Smith, who split their time between domestic current life and “Interdimensional adventures,” whereas they set to travel different realism and dimensions and meet different versions of themselves. The series became a massive hit for its originality, creativity, uniqueness and dark humor.

“It is dark, even to the point of being nihilistic; it is absurdist; and it operates less like a novel or serial drama and more like a meme or internet video. It also speaks to the sense of alienation, anxiety and skepticism that it not uncommon among younger Americans today.” The New York Times said.
