Jorge Mario Bergolio also known as Pope Francis, was elected on March 13, 2013 as the Bishop of Rome and head of the Catholic Church. He was 76 years old when he became pope.
Now that he is 85, rumors spark in the catholic media regarding his retirement. This speculation was prompted due to an announcement that he will be attending a feast organized by his predecessor Benedict XVI who resigned from his post in 2013, this resignation from the previous pope shocked the world as he was the most recent one in the current time to resign after more than 6 centuries.
In addition, rumors of the resignation of the pope due to his health have been deteriorating. The pope has been also seen in a wheelchair attending occasions for the last months which indicates that he is having some health issues. He also had a minor knee surgery done before.
However, what makes the Catholics question the resignation more is the announcement that the pope will travel to L'Aquila in Italy in August. The trip is all about the Feast of Forgiveness founded by Pope Celestine V who also resigned from being a pope.
News outlets across the globe and the entire Catholic media are waiting for any updates and further developments regarding this matter.
