Our Favorite Reply 1988 Moments You Will Surely Agree On
By Iman Mensenares 27 Aug 2020 1171

Filipinos have been obsessed with K-dramas and movies nowadays. Some tend to finish binge-watching 20 episodes-long series in a span of 2 to 3 days! Like, how can you do that folks? Lol. I am not actually fond of Korean dramas, but if you are going to ask me which k-series I would not get tired of watching, that would be Reply 1988.

One of South Korea’s highest-rated series in their television history. Reply 1988 revolves around five friends and their families residing in the same street of Ssangmun-dong in the year 1988. With its story of family, love, and the roller coaster of emotions it gives to its viewers, Reply 1988 is a great drama Filipino will definitely relate to.

Since I can’t get enough of this amazing drama, I listed down some of my favorite moments in Ssangmun-dong which I bet you have loved too.

SPOILER ALERT!  Just get back here when you have finished watching it.

Food Sharing

I really admire how these five families in the street of Ssangmun-dong share their food with each other. A trait Filipinos can connect to.

The Three Ladies of Ssangmun-dong

Il-hwa, Mi-ran, and Sun-young, the epitome of all mothers who will do anything for their family’s welfare. Of course, we should not have to miss their chit-chat moments on the side.

Hangouts at Taek’s Room

Ssangmun-dong kids’ favorite hangout place is in Taek’s room. I just really enjoy their ramen, movie, or pizza nights.

Aigoo! Kim Sajang!

Am I not the only one who was eager to memorize these greeting line whenever Mr. Kim and Deok Sun meet? It is just so cute, plus the ‘choreography’ they created for it.

Sung Family’s home

This half-basement house is not complete without the family’s daily clashes and yelling.

Good Sun-woo

Being a good son to Sun-young and a big brother to the cutest Jin-joo, Sun-woo is really a guy you surely want to be friends with.

Deok Sun and Jung-Hwan's unfated love story

Even though they did not end up together, Jung-hwan’s secret love to Deok Sun really gave more kilig and twist to the whole story. (I’m #TeamTaek though).

Goat Meee!

The character that did not make an appearance but definitely a big part of the drama! Meee. LOL!

These are just some of the moments I enjoyed in the drama, not mentioning the specific scenes that really made my heart cry out, *weeps*. Reply 1988, indeed, connected me with every character’s story and showed me different types of love.

If you haven’t watched it yet, Reply 1988 is available for streaming on Netflix.
