New and upcoming movies, series to check out on Netflix

Friday nights, and weekends are always dedicated to resting, good times, and “me-time”. And as pandemic continues to halt our traditional way of spending these day-offs, our ways of respiting ourselves have become limited.

The good news is Netflix continues to save our day from becoming bland, boring, and dull, and give us something exciting to do in the comforts of our home. So if you are looking for something to binge-watch this weekend, we list down movies, and series that you should check out!

Demon Slayer Season 2

Demon Slayer season 2 is now on Netflix, but some might be confused by the Mugen Train arc that's currently recapping the hit movie and only providing a glimpse of new scenes in its episodes.

So, what can we expect from the story? Without delving too deep into the detailed sequence to avoid movie spoilers, the first season ended with Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke summoned to their first major assignment as part of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Rengoku, a member of the Hashira (elite Demon Slayer swordsman) is tasked with accompanying the trio – and with Tanjiro’s sister-turned-demon Nezuko in tow. The events of the movie surround Tanjiro and company’s attempts to take down the Lower One of the Twelve Moons, the demonic group led by original demon – and slayer of Tanjiro’s family – Muzan Kibutsuji.

After the dramatic events of Mugen Train, and the end of the Infinity Train saga, Tanjiro, the Hashira, and the Demon Slayer Corps will have to deal with the fallout of the movie, but also the emergence of dangerous new foes.

The second season, (see the trailer below), shows the group heading to Yoshiwara, a town with bright lights and dark desires. Fertile ground for demons, then, and with the Sound Hashira (Tengen Uzui) also in tow, expect Tanjiro to maybe come into conflict with an Upper Moon or two. Upper Rank Six demon, Daki, is also confirmed to appear.

Pokemon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle

Pokemon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle is like a Tarzan and Pokémon crossover. It introduces Koko, a young boy the same age as longtime Pokémon protagonist Ash. Koko was raised in the jungle by an ape Pokémon, Zarude. A lot of the movie revolves on exploring themes around what it means to be a family. When Koko learns he’s human, and that his Pokémon dad is not his biological dad, he gets upset, but Ash comforts him by telling him that Koko and his adoptive father remind him of his own dad.

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha

Following the international success of Squid Game, which reached number one on the Netflix NFLX +0.6% global charts, another Korean drama is gaining in worldwide popularity. Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is currently the talk of the town in the Philippines. Audience say they feel comfortable and relaxed, and that it gives off positive vibe, as they watch this new Korean drama. The drama, which stars Shin Min-ah and Kim Seon-ho, is a feel-good romance that began airing in August. The story follows the potential romance between the dentist, Yoon Hye-jin, played by Shin, and the unemployed handyman, Hong Du-sik, played by Kim. Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is so popular that viewers have taken to visiting the seaside village of Pohang, the location for the fictional village of Gongjin, where the story is set. Fans have been tracking down the filming locations, including local homes.

Locke & Key season 2

Did you that Locke & Key took a whopping 12 years to reach our screens? So it would be such a shame if Netflix cancelled it after just one season. And if that isn't exciting enough, season three has also received the green light according to The Wrap. "The first season, we always thought of as being the story of the kids learning that they're the new Keepers of the Keys," Averill told Gizmodo. "With season two, we want to explore what that responsibility means. What does it mean as they get closer to being 18 years old – the age when you age out of magic – what does that mean?" co-showrunner Meredith Averill said. Ten brand new episodes of Locke & Key will premiere on Netflix on Friday, October 22.

There's Someone Inside Your House

If you are into something spooky this weekend, then this movie fits you well. There's Someone Inside Your House is a teen slasher flick that hit Netflix just in time for blood-thirsty Halloween viewers. Based on the book by Stephanie Perkins and directed by Patrick Brice of Creep fame, There's Someone Inside Your House follows a group of students of Osborne High School, primarily Makani Young, who is relatively new to the small town after moving from Hawaii to live with her grandmother. But when students start getting murdered, exposing the teens' darkest secrets, the whole town of Osborne is on edge.
