Following the growing demand for more information surrounding pop star Britney Spears's long-standing conservatorship, streaming giant Netflix is reported to be working on a new documentary.
According to Bloomberg News, another documentary revolving the iconic pop star princess and her battle for freedom from the constraints of her conservatorship and father will be the subject of the new Netflix documentary. The upcoming project will reportedly be directed by filmmaker Erin Lee Carr, who is widely known for her true-crime documentary work like Larry Nassar and the USA Gymnastics sexual abuse scandal, Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard, and the New York City "Cannibal Cop."
The success of the recently released Hulu and New York Times–produced documentary, “Framing Britney Spears”, which resulted in a global surge of support for the pop star triggers the news of the new Netflix film. The documentary is an analysis of mainstream misogyny, exposing the media as partly to blame for the pop star's early downfall. Even Spears's ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake admitted his involvement in the mistreatment of Spears, issuing an apology to the star on Instagram last week.
"I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefitted from a system that condones misogyny and racism," said Timberlake in his statement. "I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed."
Spears has yet to fully acknowledge the information disclosed in the Framing Britney Spears documentary, but the musician did release a statement on Twitter following its premiere, encouraging fans to know that there's always another side to anyone's story.
"Each person has their story and their take on other people's stories !!!! We all have so many different bright beautiful lives 🌹🌸🌷🌼!!! ," wrote Spears. "Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person's life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens 📷✨ !!!!"
Netflix has yet to give further details about the upcoming documentary including the title and release date.
