Metro Manila remains under GCQ, Cebu City back under ECQ until June 30
By AJ Virtuz 16 Jun 2020 638

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced on June 15, past midnight, that Metro Manila will remain under general community quarantine (GCQ) until the end of June, while Cebu City will again be under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the reported continuous rise of COVID-19 cases in the area.

However, the decision still can change as President Duterte is yet to consult business sectors about it.

“Yun lang muna ano natin (Let’s stick with this) but later on, as we ramble on, maybe tomorrow (Tuesday) or the day after, after I shall have talked with the businessmen, then we can decide whether or not we can still modify the modified lockdown that we have imposed,” Duterte said during his public address on Monday.

According to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III whom was called to resign by fourteen senators due to failed coronavirus response, the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases placed Cebu City back to the ECQ as the number of confirmed cases continuously increases in the city.

“Due to the increasing number of new cases and widespread community transmission in the majority of barangays in the city, as well as the consistent case doubling time of less than seven days, and the significant increase in critical care utilization against critical care capacity, Cebu City shall be placed under enhanced community quarantine,” Duque said.

Aside from Metro Manila, these are the areas that are also placed under GCQ until June 30th:

Luzon

  • Cagayan
  • Isabela
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Quirino
  • Santiago City
  • Aurora
  • Bataan
  • Bulacan
  • Tarlac
  • Olongapo City
  • Cavite
  • Laguna
  • Batangas
  • Rizal
  • Quezon
  • Occidental Mindoro

Visayas

  • Bohol
  • Cebu
  • Negros Oriental
  • Siquijor
  • Mandaue City
  • Lapu-Lapu City

Mindanao

  • Davao City
  • Zamboanga City

Roque also said on May 28 that Metro Manila, which accounted for majority of Philippines’ total COVID-19 infection, is now ready for a more relaxed community quarantine.
