The collaboration we never thought we needed!

It’s indeed a historical moment for the two media network rivals, ABS-CBN and GMA as they set foot on an unusual collaboration: Blockbusters and well-loved Star Cinema films will now be airing on GMA-7. 

The virtual contract signing took place on Tuesday, April 5. Present in attendance were GMA executives Gilberto Duavit Jr, Philip Yalung, Annette Gozon Valdes, and Joey Abacan present, alongside ABS-CBN executives Carlo Katigbak, Mark Lopez, Cory Vidanes, and Ricardo Tan Jr.

In July 2022, people were all shocked in disbelief when ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal was blocked by the House of Representatives, making the network find new mediums for its shows and content. CEO Carlo Katigbak expressed his joy with this partnership as they will be able to bring Kapamilya stories to a new audience. 

“Every storyteller's dream is to have as many people as possible experience their creations. Now, because of the kindness of our friends at GMA, we have the special opportunity to bring our Kapamilya stories to a new audience. We hope the Kapusos find joy and inspiration in viewing our Star Cinema movies and we also look forward to a new era of friendship and cooperation within our small industry…” 

Among the notable movies that are licensed to air on GMA-7 are ‘Alone/Together’ starring real life partners, Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano, ‘Hello Love Goodbye’ with Kathryn Bernardo and Kapuso star, Alden Richards and horror film ‘Feng Shui’ starring Kris Aquino.
