On August 11, 2020, Billboard Hot 100 released their Top 10 for the week, making Harry Styles dethrone Taylor Swift’s ‘Cardigan’ on the number 1 spot with his song ‘Watermelon Sugar,’ which surged from No. 7. This is the second time a One Direction member achieved number one on Hot 100 next to Zayn Malik with his song ‘Pillowtalk’ on February 2016.
Watermelon Sugar has spent 20 weeks on Hot 100 before reaching number one, thanks, in part to a July 31st behind-the-scenes video of the official music video and an August 3 “lost tour visual” of the song. The release of the visual lined up perfectly with National Watermelon Day on August 3, leading to a sales boost of the song.
Meanwhile, Style’s fans congratulate him after reaching his first no. 1 as #CongratulationsHarry becomes a trend on Twitter.
It was just last month, when One Direction celebrated its 10th-year anniversary formation with heartwarming tweets and some new content when Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson launched an immersive and interactive 1D anniversary website for fans that compiles videos, artwork, and more milestones from the band's timeline, from their 2010 auditions on the U.K.'s The X Factor to the beginning of their hiatus in 2016.
"I've been struggling to put into words how grateful I am for everything that’s happened over the last ten years. To all the fans, I love you, and I thank you with all my heart. You did it all, and you changed everything. And finally.. to the boys, I love you so much, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything we achieved together. Here’s to ten." Styles shared on Twitter alongside a pic of the guys hugging on stage.
