‘Glee’ star Naya Rivera is presumed to have accidentally drowned at Lake Piru—a lake in California, authorities reported on Friday, July 10, 2020, after a long search with the help of divers, patrol boats and helicopters and found no trace of the actress.

According to a Ventura County Sheriff Office’s statement, the operation to save and locate the 33-year old actress “has turned into a recovery mission.”

“Investigators believe Rivera drowned in what appears to be a tragic accident,” said in the statement.

Naya Rivera, known for her role as Santana Lopez in an American musical TV series “Glee,” was reported missing on Thursday, July 9, 2020 while boating with her four-year old son. Although the child was found “asleep and with his life vest on” in the boat they rented three hours later which was seen by another person on the lake, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Eric Buschow.

“Rivera’s son told investigators that he and his mother had been swimming in the lake, and he got back in the boat, but Rivera did not,” the spokesman said.

The lake was announced closed to the public while 100 personnel, including the US coast Guard and rescuers from the neighbourhood, help in searching the entire shoreline and surface of the lake.

On July 3, Naya has tweeted a selfie of hers with an inspirational caption “no matter the year, circumstance, or strifes everyday you're alive is a blessing. make the most of today and every day you are given. tomorrow is not promised,” while her last tweet was a photo of her with her son with a caption “just the two of us.”

Rivera has starred in six seasons of Glee—which became a massively popular musical television series in the US that ended in 2015.
