Facebook, Twitter temporarily block US Pres. Trump from posting
By Jhoemz Vercide 07 Jan 2021 776

Yup, even the leader of the most powerful nation has no force when it comes to social media giants!

Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube on Wednesday removed US President Donald Trump’s posts addressing the spread of misinformation and violence after supporters stormed the US Capitol.

In a 62-second video posted, Trump repeated his baseless claims that the presidential election had been “stolen" while urging his supporters, who had caused the Capitol to go into lockdown by swarming the House and Senate chambers, to "go home."

According to a write-up published by The Guardian, Facebook has suspended Trump from posting to his account for 24 hours. Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, also locked Trump’s account.

Twitter locked Trump out of his account for 12 hours and is requiring him to delete three tweets that violate its policies. If he does not delete them, his account will remain suspended indefinitely, the company said in a public statement. If Trump again violates the policies, his account will be permanently suspended from Twitter.

To date, the move initiated by the social media companies marks the harshest and aggressive confrontation between them and the president; but this is not the first time Twitter and Facebook locked and deleted posts.

Well, this isn’t a political battle anymore but also a fight in the digital age where many lives are at risk.
