DLSU Lady Spikers punishes Ateneo Blue Eagles to return to the Finals
By Norman Son Adriano 17 Jun 2022 782

The DLSU Lady Spikers smashed their way to return to the finals of the UAAP Season 84 Women's Volleyball after a convincing straight set win against their long time rival and defending champions Ateneo Blue Eagles. Wasting no time and not lending any momentum to their opponents, the Lady ]Spikers played cohesively as a team to once more try to reclaim the title.

The Mall of Asia Arena was filled by green and blue shirts on June 16 as the Katipunan and Taft squads faced each other for the third time this season. In the opening set of the match, the Blue Eagles kicked off a strong start pulling away with three points. However, the towering Thea Gagate and rookie Alleiah Malaluan poured and contributed points to claim that set, 25-19. Faith Nisperos, on the other court, played her usual self on the second set as she helped her team but fell a little short losing once again, 25-20. In the final set, the Lady Spikers led by team captain Jolina Dela Cruz put an early pull away but the Eagles worked hard to close the score at 24-23, but an Alleiah Malaluan strong hit ended the match 25-23, in favor of La Salle.

After the match, the Blue Eagles were seen as emotional as they ended their UAAP campaign as the second-runner up.  They were awarded a bronze medal and a trophy right after the match.

In season 81, the DLSU Lady Spikers experienced a heartbreaking loss after failing to make it to the final four. Now, they will make a showdown and will try to snatch the championship against the NU Lady Bulldogs who went straight to the finals after a zero loss in the elimination round.

A best of three match for the finals is set between the two universities.
