The Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc (BPCI) also released a statement on May 25 that too they will be postponing the 2020 edition of the Binibining Pilipinas indefinitely.
In a statement released on their social media accounts, the organization said that their main concern is the “safety of the candidates, their families, supporters, and the general public”. The pageant organization also announced that they will push through with the 2020 edition of the pageant and activities once clear guidelines have been issued by the government.
"Rest assured that BPCI still intends to hold the pageant with its partners and sponsors as soon as the situation permits, when the threat of transmission and infection is at its minimum.” The BPCI said in their statement.
In an online show mostly about pageantry named QueenTuhan, hosted by Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Binibining Pilipinas International 2014 Bianca Guidotti, and Mutya ng Pilipinas Intercontinental 2010 Carla Lizardo—the three Filipina title holders made a statement on how COVID-19 is changing the pageantry and believe that today's beauty queens have bigger responsibilities than those who joined before, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect millions of lives across the globe.
"I guess a more lasting change that the pandemic gave is mas focused na 'yung mga tao to see a girl who has the ability to influence and to inspire. Iyon ang hinahanap ng mga tao eh. You can't just be beautiful, you can't just be smart. Now, you have to be able to rally people and give back," Guidotti explained.
"I think kasi in these times, we are looking for a hero... So 'yung responsibilities ng beauty queens ngayon are definitely growing and growing," she added.
