The Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) has parted ways with the 9 year old Thai-based beauty pageant, Miss Grand International in a released announcement on November 7. In a statement, the BPCI officially withdrew and will no longer renew its franchise on the said pageant. BPCI wishes the Miss Grand organization well for its future.
In the nine years of existence of the pageant since it was founded by Nawat Itsaragrisil in 2013, no Filipina beauty queen has ever taken home the elusive golden crown. Representatives from the Philippines are either part of the runners up or unplaced in the competition.
In the first edition, actress Annalie Forbes was sent and ended as a 3rd runner up. In 2015, front-runner Parul Shah had a 3rd runner up finish as well. In 2016, Nicole Cordoves who made a controversial answer during the Q and A portion bagged the 1st runner up award. Eva Patalinjug, a strong contender from batch 2018 surprisingly was unplaced during the finals show. In 2020, Samantha Bernardo was almost a step away from claiming the first ever crown but fell short and ended up the 1st runner up.
In the recently concluded Miss Grand 2022 held in Indonesia, 19 year old Roberta Tamondong reached the top 20 mark but failed to advance in the top 10. However, she was shortly appointed as the 2022 edition's 5th runner up after the resignation of the original placer. Currently, Roberta is making waves in Thailand and reportedly, many companies and brands are trying to work with her.
With Bb Pilipinas dropping the Miss Grand International franchise, three crowns left under the organization: Miss International Philippines, Miss Globe Philippines, and Miss Intercontinental Philippines.
