Babies are coming! Heart Evangelista on having children
By Almira Louise Martinez 29 Sep 2022 381

Surrounded by questions and rumors regarding her marriage and plans for motherhood, Heart Evangelist finally shared a glimpse of “one of the toughest, challenging” journeys of her life. In the September issue of L’Officiel Philippines, Heart mentioned her in vitro fertilization (IVF) story. The actress-socialite stated the procedure was “very difficult and painful.” She also added that she had to undergo three injections daily for two weeks. Her hard work finally paid off when they harvested a perfect boy and a perfect girl from the procedure.

Heart also described that after her IVF journey and miscarriage in 2018, she had time to reflect on her perspective on motherhood. “‘Do I want a child because I want a child?’ or ‘Do I want a child because the environment or culture dictates that I should have a child,” the actress said. Furthermore, this approach to being a mother made her realize the essence of having control over her body. She claimed that it feels liberating to break free from the dictations of the people around her and get to decide on her own.

With the support of his husband, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Evangelista encouraged other women to consider the same procedure, for it dramatically changed her life. “I think having a choice is good and I really suggest that women (pursue this option) because it buys them time. Any time they decide on having a child, the embryo is there. Whether you decide immediately or five years from now, there is no deadline,” she expressed.

As Heart continues to dominate the fashion industry around the world, she also influences women all over the globe to fiercely stand their ground and plan their lives according to their own will and not based on other people’s opinions. This revelation also lifted the pressure on Filipinas to have children immediately after marriage, even though they are not yet prepared to be a parent. Her IVF journey opened the eyes of many to taking things slow and being the captain of their own ship.
