Ateneo Blue Eagles dispatches UST Golden Tigresses
By Norman Son Adriano 15 Jun 2022 757

The Ateneo Blue Eagles made quick work after dispatching the UST Golden Tigresses in three straight sets, throwing them out of the championship contention. The battle of Katipunan vs España at the Mall of Asia Arena flooded the twitter trend list on June 14.

For the third time this season, the two universities face each other once more but this time, the loser will be totally eliminated. Faith Nisperos once more proved to be the Queen Eagle of her generation as she spiked her way to be the best player of the game.

On the first set, the tigresses contributed from outside to middle offenses. Imee Hernandez, despite being a rookie, showed off her own version of running spikes as she helped her seniors hype up the team. However, UST failed to contain Nisperos and Vanie Gandlers' power, losing the tight set 25-23 in favor of the Eagles. On the second set, the same story happened as Laure and Nisperos battled it out head to head. UST made a comeback after being down by points but once again Ateneo proved to be resilient as they took the set 25-23. In the final set, the eagles did not let UST get any momentum as they took the third 25-20.

After the match, senior Eya Laure was seen feeling emotional.

In an interview, she said that she is still uncertain whether to play her last playing year in the UAAP or go pro as she will think about it carefully. UST ended their season 84 campaign.

"Siyempre pag-iisipan ko yan nang mabuti kasi hindi naman madali iwan na lang 'yung UST ng ganon ganon lang." Laure said.

Ateneo Blue Eagles will now face the DLSU Lady Spikers on Thursday, June 17 at 6:30 pm who has a twice to beat advantage.
