Art-werk-ing in the Pandemic
By Eichi Obaña 04 Sep 2020 615

Keeping yourself busy at these times is really helpful, especially for me, as it prevents us from having a lot of negative thoughts and worries because of what’s happening right now. Not to mention that not only is our physical health at stake but also our mental health. That’s why occupying yourself is one of the few things I can think of to keep yourself sane.

Since I really love watercolor painting and it is the only art medium I enjoy working with, as it is forgiving – in a way that when you commit an error, you can easily dab a little bit of water on it to make it not look like you did. That’s why I decided to create werks that relate to being stuck on quarantine. What also inspired me to create these was the Pride Month so I took the advantage to paint “gay couple moments”.

Here are some of the werks that I’ve created, if you don’t mind viewing them LOL:

Basically, these are one of the stuff that kept me busy while being under the quarantine. I used the style I have been using and I’m comfortable with recently – polaroid-ish type of approach (to make it look like a captured “couple moments”) using light colors with traces of pencil.

I know how really frustrating, draining, and tiring being stuck at home on a daily basis is. As for me, creating these werks really kept me sane under this coronavirus pandemic. Though I know I have already made plenty, I am still not satisfied with them. So I will keep creating more when I have a will again.

That’s why I suggest to keep yourself busy, find new hobbies, or even reach out to your loved ones. But hey, it’s okay if you’re not being productive every day, as what’s important is for us to have plenty of rest. It also concurred to me that forcing yourself to create something just to feel productive might only result in a rushed work and much frustration.
