Tom Cruise’s performance didn’t diminish as Pete Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick
By AJ Virtuz 23 May 2022 677

36 years after playing the role of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun, Tom Cruise finally returns to the iconic role that brought him to global superstardom, with the much-awaited sequel, Paramount Pictures’ Top Gun: Maverick

Cruise, 59, continues to flawlessly portray the life of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a naval aviator who has refused to accept a promotion and not be pulled out of active flying action. Top Gun - Maverick ingests some of that i-will-never-give-up-no-matter-what spirit as a protagonist. It stays firmly on course and unfolds unwarranted deviations although the emotional stakes at the heart of the story - for whatever it is worth - add some depth to the plot.

Miles Teller, on the other hand, did not disappoint with his promising performance as Lieutenant Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, the son of Pete Mitchell’s late best friend, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw

About the film:

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”.

Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun: Maverick stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, Greg Tarzan Davis with Ed Harris.

The film is written by Ehren Kruger and Eric Warren Singer and Christopher McQuarrie, based the characters created by Jim Cash & Jack Epps, Jr.  Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Tom Cruise, Christopher McQuarrie and David Ellison.

Top Gun: Maverick opens in PH cinemas on May 25, two days ahead of its US release.
