Nobody really tells you how weird your 20s can feel.
One minute, you’re excited because you’re finally an adult. The next, you’re staring at your ceiling at 2 a.m., wondering if you’re making the right decisions with your life.
You see people your age graduating, getting jobs, traveling, falling in love, moving out, or somehow having their entire five-year plan figured out. Meanwhile, you’re still trying to figure out what you want for dinner tomorrow.
And honestly? That’s okay.
There’s no universal timeline for growing up. Just because someone is ahead of you in one area doesn’t mean you’re falling behind in another. Life isn’t a race, even if social media makes it feel like one.
Your 20s are supposed to be messy. You’re learning how to make decisions for yourself, how to deal with rejection, how to manage money, how to maintain friendships, and, most importantly, how to become comfortable with who you are.
You’ll make choices you’ll later question. You’ll meet people who will stay and people who won’t. You’ll probably change your mind about the career you once thought you wanted. You might even become a completely different person from who you were at 20, and that’s not something to be afraid of.
You don’t have to know exactly where you’re going. Sometimes, you just need to know what your next step is.
So take the job. Apply for the opportunity. Leave the situation that no longer makes you happy. Try something new. Rest when you need to. Start over when you have to.
And please, stop comparing your behind-the-scenes to everyone else’s highlight reel.
You’re allowed to be confused. You’re allowed to take your time. You’re allowed to not have everything figured out.
Your 20s aren’t about having all the answers.
They’re about asking better questions, and slowly, bravely, figuring out the answers along the way.
