New member of the cabinet has been added as outgoing Solicitor General Jose Calida has been chosen by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. as the chief of Commission on Audit according to incoming press secretary Atty. Trixie Angeles announced on June 29.
"Mayroon tayong bagong appointees. The first is Atty. Jose Calida for COA chair,” Angeles said on press briefing.
Calida was tapped by President Duterte as his SolGen in his administration. In 2001, he served as an undersecretary in the Department of Justice under President Gloria
Macapagal-Arroyo. As an undersecretary, Calida held a post on the National Bureau of Investigation, Witness Protection, Security and Benefits Program to name a few. After his service in the DOJ in 2004, he became the executive director of the Dangerous Drugs Board.
In 2016, it can be recalled that Calida pushed a petition for Marcos Sr. to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. He argued before the Supreme Court that Marcos Sr. is qualified to be interred because according to the AFP regulations, Maecos Sr. was a former president, soldier, commander-in-chief, medal of valor awardee, and a legislator.
During the same year, Calida headed the Alyansang Duterte-Bongbong during the national campaign election where they supported PDuts and PPBM as President and VP.
Moreover, Calida also pushed to abolish the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) which is tasked in recovering the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses.
