Heavily acclaimed show and Asia's longest-running drama anthology, MMK (Maalaala Mo Kaya) will bid its farewell this coming December after 31 colorful years in television. Loyal and avid supporters and all those audiences who watch at least an episode of the show consider this as the end of an era in Philippine television. Since it started in 1991, MMK has been part of the lives of Filipinos dramatizing real-life stories of real-people, touching the hearts of its viewers across the world.
The announcement was made through a video by the program host and ABS-CBN executive Charo Santos on Monday, November 21. Santos penned a heartfelt gratitude to all who have become part of MMK, in front and at the back of the camera.
“Hindi na po mabilang ang nasalaysay na kuwento dito sa ‘MMK’ — mga kuwentong totoo, mga salamin ng sarili ninyong buhay na nagbigay ng aral at ng panibagong pag-asa,” she said.
“Gusto ko pong magbigay-pugay sa lahat ng nagpadala ng sulat, sa aming mga direktor, writers, researchers, production staff, at sa lahat ng naging bahagi ng aming programa.
Throughout the three decades, MMK has received various nominations and recognitions locally and abroad, it has also opened doors of opportunity not only with all the veteran and iconic stars in the industry but all the up and coming and newbie actors becoming a stepping stone to showcase their acting skills.
“Sa mga artistang gumanap, maraming, maraming salamat. Sa management ng ABS-CBN, sa aming mga sponsors at higit sa lahat sa inyong mga tagapanood, kayo po ang nagsabing makahulugan sa inyo ang aming ginagawa.
“Salamat po sa lahat ng nakaraan at sa anumang paraan na maaaaring pa tayong muling magkita. Ito po si Charo Santos, ang inyong tagahanga at tagapag-kuwento,” ended Charo.
On May 15, 1991, MMK featured its first ever episode, starring Romnick Sarmenta and Robert Arevalo, entitled ‘Rubber Shoes’. This coming December 10, 2022, the program will run its finale episode after 31 years, ending an era in Philippine television. It will be a three-part episode that will begin on November 26.
