Ube jam has been at the top of our list of pasalubong when visiting Baguio. With its sweet and pure taste of ube and enticing purple shade, you can’t definitely resist a spoonful of it. Good Shepherd is known to be one of the best manufacturers of special Ube Jam in Baguio, but just today they announced in their Facebook post that they are having difficulty in growing purple yam.

“Due to the changing climate, our ube farmers are having difficulty growing ube. It has been our struggle in recent years to find a stable supply. And in the past weeks, there were none.” - Religious of the Good Shepherd, Philippines-Japan on their Facebook page.
Don’t lose hope just yet, because you can still taste their irresistibly delicious Ube jam but in a new look. They just temporarily replaced purple ube with the white one yet assure that it is still good as the original.

This is just a reminder to us that climate emergency is real and it will surely affect not just the ube but this whole world we call home.
