Current Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president in the 2022 national elections, on Monday, Oct. 04.
Domagoso filed his COC at the Harbor Garden Tent of Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.
“Ngayon mga kababayan, tanggapin niyo po ang aplikasyon ko buong kababaang loob, ako po ay tumatakbong Pangulo ng bansa at aplikante ninyo,” Moreno said in his speech after filing his COC.
He is said run under Aksyon Demokratiko party, where he is the party president, with online personality and physician Willie Ong as his running-mate.
In an article written by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, when asked if Aksyon Demokratiko had already completed its Senate slate for the upcoming polls, Moreno reiterated that he, as the party’s president, is “willing to work with anybody.”
“Anuman ang katatayuan nila — oposisyon, administrasyon, ano pang kulay ‘yan, dilaw, pula, asul, kahit ano pa sila — what is important is our commonality. If they are into it, welcome sila sa amin ni Doc Willie.” Moreno said.
Bongbong Marcos on Tuesday also officially announced he is joining the 2022 presidential race.
Marcos made the announcement in a Facebook video on the same day he took his oath as a member of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), a political party allied with the Duterte administration.
"I am announcing my intention to run for the Presidency of the Philippines in the upocming 2022 elections," the dictator’s so said.
"I will bring back unifying form of leadership in the country,” added Bongbong.
PFP earlier endorsed Marcos for the 2022 presidential race last September 21, during the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law by his father, the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
Meanwhile, Vice President Leni Robredo—who keeps her supporters (and rivals) guessing on her political ambitions for 2022—intends to make her final decision close to the Oct. 8 deadline for the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the 2022 elections.
“It’s not like I have a choice but to decide before Oct. 8,” Robredo said in her weekly radio show. “But for me, I still have two weeks. I’m going to see whether there’s still hope for everyone to band together.”
“For me, as long as we unite or the more that we reduce the number of people gunning for the presidency, the better,” she said. “And that is why I don’t plan on rushing myself, because there is still hope,” said Robredo.
For the past weeks, several public groups have come together to urge Robredo to decide now and run against President Duterte’s successor.
