The Armed Forces of the Philippines confirmed that spokesman Colonel Ramon Zagala will be the commander in-charge for the safety and security of incoming President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. Colonel Zagala will serve as the next commander of the Presidential Security Group (PSG), in addition, he will also serve as an acting senior military assistant (SMA).
Though an official announcement has yet to be made, Col. Zagala has been relieved from his position and his duties as the spokesperson of AFP to prepare as he takes over his new post as PSG. He is set to replace outgoing Brig. Gen. Randolph Cabangbang who was designated to the post in August 2021.
"He will be designated effective June 30 pero wala pang official order,” said Colonel Jorry Baclor.
Col. Zagala came from a military family. He is the son of retired Major General Zagala who was then the Army chief from 1972-1975 during the administration of Marcos Sr.
Col. Zagala was commissioned to the AFP on August 9, 1994. He was part of the AFP Special Forces and Airborne before becoming the spokesman.
Prior to being the AFP’s spokesman, Zagala was a member of the AFP Special Forces and Airborne.
