The board of directors of Twitter overwhelmingly approved Musk's plan to buy the social media network. On Monday, the company stated that it had accepted Tesla CEO Elon Musk's offer of $44 billion to take the company private. That means the world’s richest man, who enjoys theatrics and erratic conduct, will soon have the power to influence discussions on a social network utilized by more than 200 million people every day.
In a joint statement with Twitter, Musk stated that he wants to improve the service “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated” the 50-year-old musk said, “I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential ─ I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it”
Musk began buying Twitter shares about three months ago, increasing his holding from 5% to more than 9% and making serious hints that he wanted to dominate the social media network. Musk's acquisition comes roughly five months after Jack Dorsey, the company's founder and CEO, stepped down and was replaced by Agrawal.
